intrauterine insemination - iui
Intrauterine insemination is a low-complexity procedure. In addition, it is painless, like a gynecologic exam. It involves the introduction of sperm prepared in the laboratory directly into the uterine cavity, using a suitable catheter.
This procedure is suggested in cases where there are difficulties such as inadequate cervical mucus, anatomic abnormalities of the cervix or problems in semen quality, among others.
The semen used can be from the partner or from the frozen-sperm bank, from an anonymous donor, depending on each case report. The steps are: induction of ovulation, semen collection and preparation and placement of selected spermatozoids at the fundus of the uterus.
