treatment of varicocele
Treatment is recommended to men who are having problems to father a child and present clinical varicocele (identified in the patient’s physical examination), associated with alteration of the sperm test.
It may also be recommended to patients with testicular pain (associated with clinical varicocele and excluding other causes of pain), as well as adolescents with clinical varicocele and testicular volume reduction on the varicocele side.
As the disease progresses, treatment in young men with clinical varicocele and with altered sperm test is recommended.
The treatment of varicocele is surgical, and it should preferably be performed under a microscope. This technique allows us to identify the artery, dilated and lymphatic veins, therefore reducing possible complications of this treatment, and allowing a success rate of over 90%.
The control is done with clinical examination and sperm test, which are performed 3, 6 and 12 months after the operation, a period in which the fertility improvement usually occurs.
